How do I handle high levels of chlorine in my pool?

If your pool has high chlorine levels, here are a few ways to reduce it safely:

1. Stop Adding Chlorine

  • If you're using chlorine tablets, remove them from the skimmer or floater.

  • Turn off any chlorine feeders or saltwater generators.

2. Let the Sun Help ☀️

  • Sunlight naturally breaks down chlorine - just leave the pool uncovered for a day or two.

  • Running the pump helps circulate the water, speeding up chlorine reduction.

3. Dilution (Partial Drain & Refill)

  • Remove some water and replace it with fresh water to lower chlorine concentration.

  • Be careful not to drain too much at once, especially with above-ground pools.

4. Use a Neutralizer (If Levels Are Very High)

  • Sodium Thiosulfate or Pool Dechlorinator can quickly bring chlorine down.

  • Follow product instructions carefully to avoid overcorrecting.

5. Test & Monitor Regularly

  • Ideal chlorine level: 1-3 ppm

  • Test the water daily until levels stabilize.
