This review covers the current Intex C2500, model 26633EG.
The Intex C2500 is the highest-capacity cartridge filter pump in Intex's current C-series lineup.
It sits above the C1000 and C1500 and gives you a substantial jump in circulation without forcing you to switch from cartridge filtration to a sand-filter system.
That makes it particularly interesting for owners of larger family-sized above-ground pools who still prefer the simplicity of removing and rinsing a cartridge rather than operating a multiport sand filter.
And just as we found with the C1500, the headline 2,500 GPH number isn't the figure we'd use when deciding whether it suits your pool.
The C2500's actual system flow rate is 1,900 GPH.
That's still a strong step up from the C1500's 1,180 GPH system flow, but understanding the difference between pump flow and system flow is important before relying on Intex's stated 15,200-gallon maximum.
Quick Verdict
The Intex C2500 is our preferred cartridge-filter option for larger above-ground pools where you want stronger circulation but aren't ready to move to a sand filter.
Its 1,900 GPH system flow gives it considerably more breathing room than the C1500, and we think it makes particularly good sense for typical round above-ground pools up to around 18 ft, depending on wall height and actual water volume.
Intex rates it for pools up to 15,200 gallons, but our practical recommendation is considerably more conservative. We'd be most comfortable pairing the C2500 with a typical round above-ground pool up to around 18 ft, depending on wall height and actual water volume.
For an 18 ft family pool, the C2500 gives us the sort of extra circulation capacity we'd want for swimmers, debris, a dirty cartridge and those periods when the pool needs more help than it does on a perfect summer day.
Best for: Larger above-ground pools up to around 18 ft where you want to stay with cartridge filtration.
Skip it if: You're moving beyond that size and need substantially more filtration capacity. At that point, we'd look at a larger sand-filter system such as the SX2800 or SX3000 — or a higher-capacity cartridge system such as the Hayward XStream if you want to stay with cartridges.

The number we'd pay closest attention to is 1,900 GPH system flow, not simply the 2,500 GPH printed in the product name. Intex's current product documentation confirms the 2,500 GPH pump output, while its current product catalog specifies 1,900 GPH system flow for model 26633EG.
2,500 GPH vs 1,900 GPH: Which Number Matters?
The C2500 is marketed as a 2,500 GPH cartridge filter pump.
That's the pump-flow figure.
Once water is moving through the complete filtration system — including the cartridge, hoses and fittings — the stated system flow rate drops to 1,900 GPH.
For sizing the pump to your pool, that's the figure we'd use.
Here's what 1,900 GPH looks like at several pool volumes:
At around 6,000–8,000 gallons, the C2500 gives you roughly a 3.2–4.2 hour theoretical turnover. Even at 10,000 gallons, you're still around 5.3 hours.
Those numbers are much more comfortable to us than pushing the pump toward the 15,200-gallon manufacturer ceiling.
They're theoretical calculations rather than a guarantee that every individual gallon has passed through the cartridge once. Pool water continually mixes, and actual flow can also decrease as the cartridge becomes dirty.
That's precisely why we prefer some filtration headroom.
What Size Pool Would We Actually Use the C2500 On?
Intex gives the C2500 a stated capacity of up to 15,200 gallons.
At its 1,900 GPH system flow, that works out almost exactly at an eight-hour theoretical turnover.
As with the C1500, we prefer a much more conservative real-world recommendation.
For a typical round above-ground pool, we'd see the C2500 as our cartridge-filter choice up to around 18 ft, depending on wall height and actual water volume.

On flow alone, the C2500 can theoretically turn over as much as 11,400 gallons within our six-hour target.
So why stop our practical recommendation around 18 ft?
Because turnover isn't the only consideration once the pool gets larger.
Larger pools typically bring more water, more swimmers, more debris and a greater amount of material for the filter itself to hold. A cartridge pump may still move enough water mathematically, but you'll be asking a removable Type B cartridge to deal with the filtration load.
Once we're moving beyond a typical 18 ft round pool, we'd personally start considering a larger sand-filter system such as the SX2800 or SX3000.
That's not because the C2500 suddenly stops working at 19 ft.
It's because we'd rather have the extra media capacity and easy backwashing of a larger sand filter than keep stretching a cartridge system simply because the turnover calculation still fits below six hours.
Intex's number tells you what the C2500 can support. Our recommendation reflects where we'd be happiest living with it throughout a full pool season.
What We Like About the Intex C2500
The Extra System Flow Is Meaningful
The jump from C1500 to C2500 isn't a tiny specification upgrade.
The C1500 gives you 1,180 GPH of system flow.
The C2500 gives you 1,900 GPH.
That's roughly 720 GPH of additional real system flow, which becomes very noticeable as pool volume increases.
This is why we see the C1500 and C2500 as serving genuinely different pool sizes rather than simply being two versions of the same pump.
The Cartridge Gauge Is Useful on a Larger Pool
Like the C1500, the current C2500 includes a color-coded cartridge-condition indicator.
It moves between green, yellow and red, giving you a visual indication of increasing restriction through the filter.

We like this feature even more on the C2500 because the cartridge is potentially dealing with a much larger water volume and debris load.
As dirt accumulates, water flow through the cartridge becomes more restricted.
The gauge doesn't replace common sense — if return flow suddenly drops, check the system — but it gives you another useful cue that the cartridge needs attention.
The Larger Type B Cartridge Suits the Higher Flow
The C2500 uses Intex's Type B / 29005E cartridge, rather than the Type A used by the C1000 and C1500.
That's appropriate for the higher-capacity system.
Type B replacement cartridges are readily available, and the filter housing is still straightforward to open for cleaning.
Intex's current retailer guidance commonly suggests changing the cartridge every couple of weeks.
We wouldn't treat that as a rigid replacement schedule.
If the cartridge rinses clean, remains undamaged and normal flow returns after cleaning, we wouldn't throw it away simply because a calendar says two weeks have passed.
Likewise, a heavily used pool may need the cartridge cleaned much sooner.
Condition and performance matter more than an arbitrary number of days.

The Automatic Timer Still Makes Daily Filtration Easy
The C2500 includes a built-in automatic timer, allowing you to set a daily filtration schedule rather than manually switching the system on and off.
That becomes particularly useful on a larger pool where you're likely to run the pump for several hours every day.
The timer isn't a reason to buy the C2500 over another properly sized filtration system, but it removes one repetitive job from everyday pool maintenance.
HydroAeration Is Included
The C2500 also includes Intex's HydroAeration return fitting.
Intex says the system introduces air into the returning water to improve circulation, filtration and water clarity. The current C2500 product page confirms HydroAeration as a standard feature.
Our view is the same as with the C1500: we wouldn't buy the pump because of HydroAeration.
The useful part is the visible water movement and aerated return, which can help distribute returning water around the pool.
What's Included With the C2500?
The current C2500 package includes the cartridge filter pump, two 1.5-inch connector hoses, one Type B cartridge and a HydroAeration inlet fitting.
The US 110–120V version also includes GFCI electrical protection.

The C2500 is intended as a straightforward filtration system, but we would still check the connections already fitted to your pool before ordering.
If you're upgrading from a smaller pump with different plumbing, additional adapters or pool-side fittings may still be necessary.

What Is the C2500 Like to Maintain?
The basic routine is no more complicated than the C1500.
There's no sand to backwash.
Instead, you open the filter housing, remove the Type B cartridge and rinse accumulated debris from between the pleats.
If the cartridge remains dirty, damaged or restrictive after cleaning, replace it.

The potential downside becomes more noticeable as pool size increases.
A larger pool can send more dirt, pollen, fine debris and swimmer-related contaminants into the filter.
So although the C2500 gives you much stronger circulation than the C1500, you're still periodically dealing with one removable cartridge rather than a large granular filter bed that can simply be backwashed.
For some owners, that's still easy enough.
For others, it's the point where a sand filter starts becoming more convenient.
Intex C2500 vs C1500: Is the Upgrade Worth It?
For us, this isn't mainly a price decision.
The price gap between Intex cartridge models is often modest enough that we'd choose the pump that better matches the pool rather than intentionally buying the smaller model to save a relatively small amount.
The real difference is system flow:
Our practical split would be:
C1500 → typical round pools up to about 14–15 ft
C2500 → typical round pools up to about 18 ft
If you have a 14 ft pool and the C1500 gives you plenty of circulation, there's no need to buy the C2500 just because bigger sounds better.
But once you're moving toward an 18 ft pool, we'd rather have the C2500's additional headroom.

Intex C2500 vs SX2800 Sand Filter: Which Would We Choose?
This is where the decision becomes more interesting.
The C2500 gives you strong cartridge filtration without sand, backwashing or a multiport valve.
The SX2800, on the other hand, moves you into a larger granular filtration system designed around a substantial media bed and routine backwashing.
For an 18 ft pool, we'd be comfortable considering either depending on how you want to maintain the system.
The C2500 makes sense if you prefer:
removing and rinsing a cartridge;
no backwash water discharge;
simpler filter operation;
a relatively compact cartridge system.
The SX2800 makes more sense if you prefer:
leaving the media inside the filter;
cleaning through backwashing;
more filtration-media capacity;
greater headroom as pool size and debris load increase.
Once we're moving beyond roughly 18 ft, we'd increasingly favor the larger sand-filter route.

What If You Want to Stay With Cartridge Filtration?
Moving beyond the C2500 doesn't automatically mean you need to switch to sand.
If you prefer cartridge filtration and want substantially more filter capacity, the Hayward XStream Cartridge Filter System is the next option we'd look at.
The XStream uses a much larger cartridge than the compact Intex C-series systems, giving it considerably more filtration area and debris-holding capacity while still avoiding the need to backwash.
It's a very different type of purchase from the C2500. You're moving from a relatively compact and affordable Intex filter pump into a larger, more substantial cartridge-filter system, so the price jump can be significant.
But if you have a larger above-ground pool and already know that you prefer cartridge filtration, we wouldn't tell you to switch to sand simply because you've outgrown the C2500.
In that situation, the XStream deserves serious consideration.

What About the SX3000?
The SX3000 moves another step up, with 2,450 GPH of system flow and a substantially larger sand-media capacity.
If you're open to switching from cartridge filtration to sand, this is where we'd be looking for larger pools where the C2500's cartridge setup begins to feel like the limiting factor rather than the pump itself.
We're not saying everyone with a pool larger than 18 ft automatically needs the SX3000.
Actual gallons, plumbing, debris load and desired turnover all matter.
But once pool size gets into that territory, we'd rather move to a filtration system with substantially more media capacity than keep pushing the C2500 toward the upper end of its workload — whether that's a larger sand filter such as the SX3000 or a higher-capacity cartridge system such as the Hayward XStream.

What to Know Before Buying
A Bigger Pump Doesn't Remove Cartridge Maintenance
The C2500 gives you much stronger flow than the C1500, but it is still a cartridge filter.
You'll still need to open the housing, remove the Type B cartridge and clean it periodically.
If cartridge cleaning is the thing you dislike most about your current filtration system, buying a larger cartridge pump doesn't solve that problem.
That's when we'd look at sand.
Check Your Existing Pool Connections
The current C2500 package is supplied with larger connector hoses, so check the plumbing on the pool you're upgrading.
This is especially important if you're replacing a small stock filter pump that used different hose fittings.
Adapters are inexpensive compared with the pump itself, but discovering you need them after the C2500 arrives is still frustrating.
Don't Buy the C2500 Just Because It Has the Biggest Number
More flow is useful when your pool needs it.
It isn't automatically better when it doesn't.
An oversized pump can add unnecessary cost and complexity without improving a smaller pool that's already getting comfortable turnover from a properly sized system.
Our goal isn't:
buy the biggest pump you can afford.
It's:
buy enough pump that the system isn't struggling in everyday conditions.
That's a very different approach.

What We'd Consider Before Buying
A larger pool means more cartridge cleaning. Stronger flow doesn't change the fact that debris is still collecting in a removable cartridge.
We wouldn't use Intex's full 15,200-gallon ceiling. That represents roughly an eight-hour theoretical turnover.
Larger pools may justify a bigger filtration system. Beyond a typical 18 ft pool, we'd start comparing the SX2800/SX3000 if you're open to sand, or the Hayward XStream if you want to stay with cartridge filtration.
Check plumbing compatibility. An upgrade from a smaller stock pump may require different fittings or adapters.
None of those make the C2500 a poor choice.
They simply define where we think it fits best.
Who Is the Intex C2500 Best For?
The C2500 makes the most sense for someone with a larger above-ground pool who still prefers cartridge filtration.
For typical round pools, we'd see it as our preferred cartridge choice up to around 18 ft, subject to wall height and actual gallon capacity.
It's particularly appealing if the C1500 would leave you wanting more circulation headroom but you aren't yet ready to move to the extra size and maintenance routine of a sand-filter system.
For that type of pool, the C2500 offers a very useful middle ground.
Who Should Skip It?
We'd choose the C1500 for a smaller 14–15 ft pool where its 1,180 GPH system flow already provides comfortable turnover.
We'd also think twice before using the C2500 on substantially larger pools just because Intex allows up to 15,200 gallons.
Once you're beyond the typical 18 ft range, we'd start looking at a larger filtration system rather than simply stretching the C2500 further.
If you're happy to move to sand, the SX2800 or SX3000 gives you considerably more media capacity and easy backwashing. If you want to stay with cartridge filtration, the Hayward XStream is the more logical step up.
And if you're already fed up with cleaning cartridges, this isn't the upgrade we'd recommend.
Move to a filtration system with a maintenance routine you actually prefer.
Is the Intex C2500 Worth It?

We just wouldn't follow the manufacturer's 15,200-gallon maximum blindly.
At that volume, you're back to roughly an eight-hour theoretical turnover.
Our preference remains six hours maximum, ideally closer to three to five hours where practical.
For a typical 18 ft pool, the C2500 sits comfortably in that territory.
Beyond that, we'd move to a filtration system with considerably more filter capacity rather than continually asking more of the C2500. That could mean an SX2800 or SX3000 if you're happy with sand, or a larger cartridge system such as the Hayward XStream if you want to stay with cartridges.
